RFA and Laser Ablation
Radiofrequency and Laser ablation is a revolutionary technique being performed for varicose veins caused by reflux. Both techniques use heat to cause scarring within the diseased vein resulting in complete closure of the vein and relief of symptoms and cosmetic improvements. Physicians who are certified to use both devices offer the ability to select the best technique for each individual patient. At South Coast Vein Care, we use both the VNUS Radiofrequency ClosureFast device as well as the EVLT Laser device.
The two biggest challenges in the treatment of varicose veins are the ability to accurately diagnose the cause of the varicose veins and the ability to use image guidance (ultrasound) during the procedures used to treat the veins. Our physicians are certified in 'endovascular' techniques used to treat venous disease from varicose veins to complex blockages of veins within the pelvis or the chest. This allows us to tailor treatments to the individual patient regardless of the cause of the diseased veins.
In addition, the challenge to the use of either Radiofrequency ablation or Laser ablation lies in the ability to use ultrasound to both place the catheter within the vein and to position the catheter at the safest location. Our physicians have completed subspeciality fellowships during which they performed ultrasound guided procedures on a daily basis. This allows us to not only offer the latest treatments in varicose veins, but also to offer the safest and most advanced techniques in patient care. Additional sclerotherapy may be used to complete the treatment of residual venous disease after the above therapies.
